French demo site visit: a trip to Burgundy

For the French MAGDA demo site, CAP2020 chose a site in Burgundy, which is located in the East of France. MAGDA will here operate and provide enhanced forecast in the area of Beaune, covering some of the most prestigious and precious vineyards in the world.

This is thanks to Maison Louis Jadot (https://www.louisjadot.com/) that accepted to host the ground devices that are necessary to gather the input data of the forecast model. All MAGDA partners are very grateful for this cooperation. MAGDA will provide useful data for vineyard growers but also for other cultivated crops in the area.

Burgundy is one of the world’s most revered vineyard, because of the microclimates that makes each wine so special. So, the area and demo site is an ideal playground for our objectives. Especially because hail and frost can occur in the area and can cause severe damage to the crops.

In situ sensors, GNSS station and a potential location for the meteobase were identified during the field visit. Cap 2020 and Meteomatics collaborators were welcomed with an exceptional wine tasting experience, a great motivation for working on forecast enhancement in this area!
